Marti bracelet
The start of spring in Greece ... starts with a special tradition, called Marti (in Greek: Ο Μάρτης). On March 1, it is tradition for Greek mothers to make a bracelet for their children. This bracelet is called "Marti", which means March. They are made of red and white thread and are tied around the wrist. The superstition is that the Greeks wear these Marti bracelets so that the early spring sun cannot burn their skin. The bracelet is red and white, the symbol of red cheeks and a white skin. The bracelets are worn from March 1 to March 31 and are worn by the midnight mass of the Greek Orthodox Easter. When the traditional bonfires are lit, the bracelets are removed and thrown into the fire.
